The KAUST Innovation Fund, formerly known as the Seed Fund, supports the University’s pipeline of technology-based startup projects and companies. It also invests in high-profile international technology companies willing to establish their operations in Saudi Arabia and to benefit from synergies with KAUST research activities. The Innovation Fund is currently managing a portfolio of more than 17 startups and has adopted a hands-on approach to ensure their success.
KAUST provides seed funding up to $200,000 and early-stage investments into formed companies (up to $2 million) and becomes a long-term strategic partner of these ventures providing strategic guidance and operational support.

The Entrepreneurs in Residence (EIR) program plays a vital role in supporting the startup’s operations and development. The program is aimed at providing to startups critical resources that are often scars in the initial phases of their development. Technology based startup team soften lack business expertise, while their establishment and growth depends on their ability to attract CEOs, CFOs, VPs of sales, VPs of engineering, etc. The EIR program, managed by the Innovation Fund, aims at creating a pool of professionals with relevant experience in business or entrepreneurial ventures who can join startups when needed to cover these crucial roles.
